2001 Subaru Impreza Sports Wagon 20K – EJ20 Turbo – 5-Speed Manual – AWD – Grade 4 On The Way!
What if Subaru built a WRX with room for your luggage, your family, and a little bit of trouble?
Actually, they did.
And America didn't get this exact version.
Introducing the 2001 Subaru Impreza Sports Wagon 20K, a Japanese-market turbocharged performance wagon that combines Subaru's rally-inspired engineering with the practicality of a five-door body.
This right-hand-drive Impreza has just 99,772 kilometers (approximately 62,000 miles) and carries a Grade 4 Japanese auction rating with an Interior Grade B.
Finished in white and equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel-drive system, this is a wonderful example of the performance wagons that helped build Subaru's enthusiast following.
But what makes this car particularly interesting is the badge on the back.
The Story Behind the 20K
Before the WRX became a household name in the United States, Subaru was already building some remarkable turbocharged Imprezas for the Japanese market.
The 20K was one of them.
The designation identified the high-performance 2.0-liter turbocharged version of the Impreza Sports Wagon. It was part of Subaru's Japanese-market performance lineup, bringing WRX-style engineering to a practical five-door wagon.
Under the hood is Subaru's EJ20 turbocharged, intercooled boxer four-cylinder engine, factory-rated at an impressive 250 PS, or approximately 247 horsepower.
That was serious performance for a compact wagon in 2001.
Add a 5-speed manual transmission, all-wheel drive, a functional hood scoop, and Subaru's distinctive horizontally opposed engine layout, and you have a vehicle that feels much more like a performance car than a conventional family wagon.
And that's exactly what makes it so appealing today.

Why This Subaru Is Different
The early 2000s were an exciting time for Subaru.
The company had established a formidable reputation in international rally competition, and its turbocharged Impreza models had become favorites among driving enthusiasts.
The second-generation Impreza introduced the now-famous round-headlight design, earning these cars the nickname "bugeye."
While American buyers eventually received the WRX, the Japanese market offered its own performance configurations, including the 20K Sports Wagon.
The result was a car that could carry your groceries during the week, your gear on the weekend, and still deliver the turbocharged driving experience that made the WRX name famous.
No oversized SUV.
No unnecessary complexity.
Just a turbocharged boxer engine, three pedals, all-wheel drive, and a proper wagon body.
That's a combination that has become increasingly difficult to find.
Japanese Auction History
This Impreza was carefully sourced through the Japanese auction system and carries a Grade 4 condition rating with an Interior Grade B.
We purchase Grade 4 to 4.5 condition vehicles only. In the Japanese auction system, Grade 5 represents near-new condition, while Grade 4 reflects a clean, well-maintained vehicle with light wear consistent with age.
The auction inspection notes minor cosmetic wear, including scratches and interior wear consistent with the vehicle's age.
